UPS/Sharks Foundation 8th Grade Leadership Awards

Each spring UPS and The Sharks Foundation are pleased to present The UPS/Sharks Foundation 8th Grade Leadership awards. These awards honor students who demonstrate outstanding leadership in the classroom as well as in the community.

Recognition
Each honoree and three guests are invited to attend the UPS/Sharks Foundation 8th Grade Leadership Awards dinner held on the arena floor at HP Pavilion. The dinner features guest speakers from UPS, The Sharks Foundation, and the Offices of Education for both Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties. During the awards dinner, each leader will be individually recognized for their outstanding achievements and presented with the following:
  • A personalized plaque
  • An autographed puck from program spokesman Mike Grier
  • Tickets to a future San Jose Sharks home game
Community Award
The dinner will also honor the UPS/Sharks Foundation Community Award winner for the year. The Community Award is presented annually to a UPS employee who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to society through their leadership and volunteerism and has actively participated in Sharks Foundation events and fundraisers throughout the season.

Photographs
Parents and guardians are invited to take photos during the event, and all students will be mailed a group photograph several days after the awards ceremony. Individual photographs will be available for purchase from team photographer Don Smith at www.printroom.com/pro/futuresharks. The site is protected to protect the rights and privacy of the award winners. Please contact The Sharks Foundation to gain access to this area.

Participation
The UPS/Sharks Foundation 8th Grade Leadership Awards are presented in conjunction with the Office of Education in Santa Clara and Santa Cruz Counties. Every public school enrolling eighth graders in these counties is invited to submit the name of a deserving leader and the criterion for selecting leaders is determined by each school individually. Information is sent to schools in the spring. Click here for a recap from the 2007 event.
